It was established in 1838 thanks to the initiative of Karol Marcinkowski and a joint-stock company established by him, the purpose of which was to build a hotel for Polish customers and shops for Polish merchants. The hotel, which was given the name "Bazaar", was built on Nowa Street, now Paderewskiego. Its construction was completed in 1841. It was from the window of this building that Ignacy Paderewski made a patriotic response, triggering the Greater Poland Uprising in 1918, which brought Wielkoplanon independence.
